Job Description

The Applied Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellow (Post-Doc) serves as a member of the Applied Psychology (AP) team at the American Psychological Association. The Post-Doc participates in and supports applied psychology programs and initiatives as directed by the Head of Applied Psychology and the Associate Director of Applied Psychology. The Post-Doc will be exposed to and learn about timely policy and scientific issues that are critical to the future of psychological science. The Post-Doc may expect to gain experience relating to policy, management, funding, and scientific issues that would be difficult to acquire in any other setting. All members of the AP team are expected to contribute to administrative duties, including the Post-Doc.

NOTE: This is a time-limited position with an initial term of one year and the potential for extension to a second year. The total duration will not exceed two years. The salary for this position will be $61,00 yearly with healthcare benefits and paid time off (PTO).

Education and Experience Required :

Minimum Requirement: Doctoral degree in an applied subdiscipline of psychology. A preference will be given to those in non-clinical subdisciplines, including, but not limited to: cognitive, social, industrial-organizational, personality, developmental, human factors, occupational health, legal, sports, and military.

  • Preferred experience and skills include:
  • Strong background in methods and statistics, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Strong track record of research and publications
  • Excellent practical writing and editing skills for non-academic audiences
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Excellent literature research and review skills
  • Strong skillset in the visual presentation of complex quantitative information

Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling and participating in meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including assisting with agendas, taking notes, developing strategies for action-items, and tracking action items.
  • Participating in the development and execution of webinars, conference presentations, or other events. This may include assisting with development of content, selection of speakers, communicating with speakers, preparation of speakers, overseeing logistics, and ensuring a successful event
  • Presenting at internal APA meetings as needed.
  • Presenting at external webinars or conferences as needed.
  • Assisting with the drafting of materials published by APA relating to applied psychological science.
  • Participating in and supporting the development, fielding, analysis, and write-up of the annual APA Work in America Survey.
  • Assisting with the promotion of applied psychology by serving as a positive and energetic ambassador for the cause.
  • Participating in and helping to plan programs relating to climate and sustainability psychology.
  • Participating in and helping to plan programs relating to human-technology interaction, including artificial intelligence.
  • Working with APA Advocacy on initiatives relating to policy and/or legislation.
  • Working cooperatively to support and assist other APA units as needed, such as Science, Education, and Practice.
  • Contributing to the overall administrative responsibilities of the AP team, which may include assisting with scheduling meetings, assisting with ensuring that AP materials are organized and accessible, assisting with updates to the AP webpage, helping serve as a responsible steward of the office budget, and helping ensure that deadlines are met.
