ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT ENGINEER, STARBASE DEVELOPMENT
As a member of the Starbase Development team, you will be directly responsible for translating engineering, commercial, and residential requirements into executable plans. You will also manage and update campus maps, site plans, and individual building drawings as the needs of the business evolve. You will work with a group of elite engineers and construction project managers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and commission infrastructure that will enable orbital launch capability for the largest rocket in the world, Starship. This position is based in Starbase, Texas (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates with stakeholders to design and build small to large capital projects across the site, managing all phases of the project from planning to final delivery.
Partners with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details for all utility needs.
Uses architecture/engineering knowledge to expedite the design process and solve conflicts during construction.
Writes and manages construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out.
Performs project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
Resolves design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.
Oversees and owns the full lifecycle of tasks and/or projects to achieve on-time and under-budget delivery with customer satisfaction. The following project management responsibilities are applicable:
Manages tools and folder systems relating to the organization of construction projects.
Provides budgetary costs based upon the preliminary scope of the project.
Gathers proposals from architects, engineers, and contractors; assigns contracts upon receipt of all proposals.
Develops the final cost and schedule for the project, and implements controls as needed to manage cost, schedule, and scope.
Facilitates city, county, and governmental approvals.
Coordinates project implementation and tracks project status.
Works with the facilities team and end user to operationalize post-construction building operations and maintenance functions.
Coordinates with end user and facilities team for building operations and maintenance.
Manages night shift contractors as project work requires.
Takes on new projects ad-hoc as business needs arise.
Coordinates permit acquisition/closeout with Cameron County.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's or master's degree in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, or architecture.
1+ years of experience creating architectural construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement.
Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R), concrete, framing, and industrial gas trade.
Able to read instructions and blueprints.
Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and methods.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is based in Starbase, TX (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area) and requires being onsite – remote work not considered.
Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Architectural Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
Architectural Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
