EO/AA This position has responsibility for providing advanced life support for critically ill/injured patients at the scene or inter-hospital facility as part of an air transport team, under the stresses of flight and hazardous environmental conditions. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law. Responsibilities Evaluates the scene of an accident, triages patients and provides advanced life support. Assists with locating and establishing a landing zone for the aircraft. Provides and oversees direct patient care assessing, diagnosing and evaluating actual or potential health problems both while the patient is being extricated and during transport. Assists in performing search and assist operations using a variety of equipment to include snowshoes and snowmobiles or climbing, utilizing ropes and lifting patients from various locations and positions utilizing scoops, boards, stretchers, gurneys and KED. Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for solving patient care problems according to needs and established nursing protocols. Transfers patients and equipment from aircraft, carts and gurneys during the loading and unloading phases of transport operations. Provides written support documentation to follow-up patient information. Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. Trains and assists new staff either at the scene or an inter-hospital facility. Provides in-patient I.V. services as required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above. Ability to provide care to the population served. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual. Demonstrated knowledge and use of a variety of equipment to include: Sapphire Pump, Zoll Monitor/Defibrillator, Glidescope, and other miscellaneous tools and equipment used in rescue and transport operations. Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations. Must be able to complete and pass annual fit for duty evaluation to meet the required technical working conditions of the position. Ability to maintain education requirements as outlined by the Commission of Accreditation of Medical Transports Systems (CAMTS) and facilitated by Nurse Educator. Ability to function during regularly scheduled, 12 and 24 hour, extended or alternative shifts. Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with death, multiple patients, family members, etc. Ability to deal with the hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients. Ability to lift and carry various weight and diameters of equipment. Ability to maintain a weight of less than 215 while fully dressed for flight duty. Qualifications Qualifications Required Five years of critical care experience including a minimum of 2 years ICU and 1 year ER (Minimum of 4000 hrs ALS experience). Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) or Burn Education equivalent within one year of hire. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or Advanced Trauma course equivalent within one year of hire. Completion of required FEMA certifications within 90 days of hire. CFRN, CEN, CCRN, CTRN within one year of hire. Weight of less than 215 fully dressed for flight duty. Maintenance of continuing education related to transport-specific CAMTS requirements (Advanced-airway, Altitude physiology, transport equipment, highway scene safety, EMS, multi trauma, pediatric critical care and quality management). Licenses Required Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The ALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah. Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire. Current RQI Healthcare Provider PALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The PALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire. * Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department. Qualifications (Preferred) Preferred Previous experience on an air transport team. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation. This position involves intensive work that my exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position are subject the hazards of air flight and environmental conditions at the scene of patient pick up. Workers are required to function in close quarters and are subject to loud noise. To ensure that the employee can meet the essential functions as well as the technical working conditions and physical demands, the employee must annually complete a fit-for-duty assessment conducted by an occupational health physician in the employee wellness center.
