Job Description
What You Will Be Doing
The Investigator 3 Unit is to work with the individual Divisions within the Department of Revenue to prevent, detect, and investigate violations of Title 43, Title 5, and Title 11 of the Alaska Statutes; and to assist the Department of Law to prosecute individuals and business entities alleged to be in violation of Title 43, Title 5, and Title 11 of the Alaska statutes as these statutes relate to Department of Revenue programs.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Performing complex criminal and civil investigations on behalf of all the Division with the Department of Revenue;
Testifying in court;
Preparing criminal complaints, search warrants, drafts and serving search warrants;
Communicating with suspects, witnesses, or others relevant to investigations;
Analyzing documents and records, including logs, tax returns, medical information, Department of Motor Vehicles records, Division of Election records, Department of Labor records, Public Safety (APSIN), and other data to determine appropriate action under state and federal law;
Preparing case reports summarizing investigation findings, regulatory actions, litigation, and/or review for and prosecution of criminal charges;
Assisting other law enforcement agencies by providing information in response to official requests as appropriate;
Assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents for use in case preparation and trial or administrative hearings;
Traveling by aircraft or boat to sometimes remote locations around the State of Alaska for investigations or inspections.

The Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) enforces Department of Revenue's criminal laws and regulations through investigation, public education, and use of legal process.
CIU provides timely and accurate investigations to the divisions we support. We continually strive for better, more efficient processes while maintaining high ethical and performance standards. This is achieved by information sharing and encouraging training and skill development to enhance our effectiveness in proactive law enforcement.

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible investigative work experience performing duties such as locating and gathering information, evidence and/or testimony to be used in civil or criminal proceedings, administrative actions, or governmentally regulated activities which included preparing reports in support of attorneys or agencies engaged in administrative adjudication, and/or detecting and verify suspected fraud, licensing violations, and other violations of state law.
Definitions:
"Competencies" means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.
"Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

This position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
