Currently we are in search of an experienced Model Maker , to join our Model Shop and assist our design engineers by producing prototypes in support of product development. This includes supporting projects with prototypes as needed to bring products from idea/concept through design, development, testing, design verification and validation, manufacturing, and product introduction.

Additional duties include assisting marketing teams with mock-up displays and the facilities team with general support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Construct product prototypes per design teams’ directions, needs, and timing.
  • Consulting with the Model Shop Manager or Design Engineers to address any areas of concern with part design as related to the steps/operations needed to fabricate the part.
  • Perform daily post processing of additive manufactured, 3D printed, parts without assistance.
  • Assist in routine daily maintenance of 3D printing machines.
  • Perform additional duties ancillary to building prototypes such as ordering hardware, taking inventory of shop consumables, clean-up, custom boxing of items to be shipped, etc.

Assist and actively participate in:

  • Training of less experienced model makers and design engineers with the use of general shop tools.
  • Maintaining shop equipment and performing repairs as directed by Model Shop Manager.
  • Taking inventory of shop consumables.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
  • complying with all Company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Transporting and/or picking up products and/or supplies as needed, using the Company vehicle.

Other:

  • Assist and participate in ad-hoc facility tasks and projects where “handyman” skills are needed.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED.
  • 3-5 years experience as a Model Maker.
  • Technical High School or Journeyman License (machinist, toolmaker) a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical procedures, and general building maintenance is a plus, though not required.
  • Basic CAD/SolidWorks skills, able to open drawings.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficient use of basic shop math. Understanding of basic geometric principles Able to read a tape measure, as well as ability to use finer measuring devices, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of materials and their given properties. Able to make recommendations for the best material to be used.
  • Leads by example with exceptional customer service, and interpersonal skills; capable of working effectively with diverse teams, situations, and ideas.
  • Possesses a mindset of “whatever needs to get done”, while maintaining company’s safety procedures.

Tools, Technical Abilities & Technology

Proficiency in many or all the following:

  • The use of non-specialized shop tools, i.e., Hand tools, cordless drills, table saw, drill press, handheld and stationary sanding equipment.
  • Mig (GMAW) and Tig (GTAW) welding practices. Able to weld structural pieces with confidence.
  • Constructing or modify fixtures for weldments.
  • Bending and cutting moderately difficult tubing and sheet metal parts.
  • The use of basic machine shop equipment, including manual vertical mill, manual lathe and CNC Mill.
  • Programming and setup of CNC Mill and or similar equipment.
  • Painting and finishing equipment and methods. Including custom color matching paint samples, understanding compatibility of different products to be used.
  • Ability to quickly acquire proficiency with new skills, equipment, and technologies. Acclimate to and learn how to use new equipment with ease.

Other

  • Employees who are in Non-Exempt positions must accurately complete, obtain approval by their manager and timely submit a timecard in the form provided by the Company, as it coincides the Company’s bi-weekly payroll schedule.
  • Ability to work extended hours as business needs warrant, may include nights and weekends.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Frequently required to use hands to operate machinery, hand tools, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
