Job Summary:

As a PACS Administrator, you will play a critical role in managing and maintaining our Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to ensure seamless imaging workflows within our healthcare facility. You will be responsible for the configuration, optimization, and support of the PACS infrastructure, including hardware, software, and network components. Your expertise will ensure that imaging data is securely stored, accurately retrieved, and readily accessible to radiologists and healthcare professionals. Additionally, you will provide technical support and training to users, oversee system upgrades and integrations, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards. Your role is vital in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our imaging services, contributing to high-quality patient care and operational excellence.

Job Objectives:

  • Establishes and maintains positive peer, leadership, and customer relationship, interacting positively and productively with teams across organizational lines
    • Administer and support the PACS infrastructure, including servers, storage, and software.
    • Ensure system availability, performance, and reliability through regular monitoring and maintenance.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to PACS hardware and software.
    • Oversee the storage, retrieval, and backup of imaging data.
    • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
    • Perform regular audits and system updates to maintain data accuracy and consistency.
    • Provide technical support to radiologists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals using the PACS system, dictation systems as well as other 3rd party image reconstruction software such as DynaCAD and Phillips IntelliSpace portal.
    • Develop and deliver training materials and sessions to enhance user proficiency and adoption.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, enhancements, and migrations in alignment with business objectives.
    • Collaborate with vendors and IT teams to integrate PACS with other healthcare systems (e.g., RIS, EHR).
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of PACS system configurations, processes, and procedures.
    • Generate regular reports on system performance, usage, and incidents.
    • Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible for audit purposes.
    • Implement and maintain security best practices to protect systems and data integrity, ensuring PACS system complies with healthcare regulations and standards.
    • Lead or participate in projects related to PACS system upgrades, expansions, or new implementations.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and timelines.
  • Design and deploy scalable, high-performance systems, including hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, solutions, and methodologies to improve system performance and efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems, applications, and services.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to critical system outages or issues outside of regular business hours.
  • Maintains professional skills and stays informed of changes in the healthcare industry, regulations, vendor technology and impacts on assigned systems
  • Utilize RIS’s ticketing system for documenting and troubleshooting, education, or work efforts
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Health Information Management, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing PACS systems or similar healthcare IT environments.
  • PACS Administrator Certification (Certified PACS Associate (CPAS), Certified DICOM Integration Professional (CDIP), and Certified PACS System Analyst (CPSA) or Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP)) preferred

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in PACS software, DICOM standards, and medical imaging technologies.
  • Experience with database management and server administration.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
