About this Opportunity The
Library Assistant works at the circulation desk, checking materials in and out, making copies, recording fines, calling reserves, and answering phones. Additionally, this position shelves and straightens materials, shelf-reads, and processes new materials. In this role, you assist library patrons with using computers, eBooks, the library catalog, and other digital resources. You also support patrons in navigating the library's online resources and help locate materials and information both in-person, over the phone, and online.
The Library Assistant is assigned a location for any weekend hours but floats to all library branch locations and drives the library van on occasion. The part-time schedule may vary up to 12 hours per week. Weekend hours are required.
Education and Experience Associate's degree with previous library experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Familiarity with current authors, bestselling titles, and classics preferred.
Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of library systems and office equipment. Must be able to use body members, hand tools and/or special devices to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to twenty pounds, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
