Job Summary

Help play an important role in the prevention of sexual violence in Minnesota. The Violence Prevention Programs Unit (VPPU) seeks a Planner Principal State to be the Sexual Violence Prevention Program Planner. This position will support the Sexual Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) which works to prevent sexual violence and advance health equity.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Implementation of evidence-based/informed and community-led programs, policies, and procedures for sexual violence prevention.
  • Collaborates with state coalitions such as the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MNCASA) and the Minnesota Indian Women's Sexual Assault Coalition (MIWSAC) to develop and implement strategies for the statewide Sexual Violence Prevention Network (SVPN).
  • Plans, develops, and distributes statewide communications to promote sexual violence prevention and advance health equity.
  • Reviews grant requirements and distribute grant funds to community organizations to prevent sexual violence and advance health equity.
Work may be conducted in-person in St. Paul, or as telework for applicants who reside in MN, IA, WI, ND, or SD, based on the business needs of the unit and supervisor discretion. Position location will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of the closest MDH office location: Bemidji, Duluth, Fergus Falls, Marshall, Rochester, St. Cloud, or St. Paul. Attendance to quarterly in person meetings, and periodic conferences, and events in St. Paul and in other locations statewide is required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years experience in public health and/or public health related violence prevention. Experience to include all of the following:
  • Management of public health and/or public health related communication projects.
  • Conducting public health and/or public health related program management.
  • Managing public health or public health related grants or contracts.
A degree in public health, community health, social work, nursing, law, medicine, or other related field may count towards professional experience as follows:
  • Associate's = 6 months
  • Bachelor's = 12 months
  • Master's = 18 months
  • Doctoral = 24 months
Knowledge, skill and abilities to be assessed at interview:
  • Knowledge of evidence-based and promising practices for primary prevention of sexual violence with a health equity lens, especially community- and societal-level strategies.
  • Ability to develop communications plans, and draft, edit, and evaluate communications content.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, trainings, and discussions among diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience engaging and working collaboratively with multiple partners, including but not limited to state agencies, community collaboratives, Tribal governments and organizations, community-based organizations, and local health departments.
  • Experience planning and coordinating the implementation of evidence-based/informed and community-led programs, policies, and procedures for sexual violence prevention with a health equity lens.
  • Experience planning and convening partnerships, meetings, events, and networks.
  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing communications to promote sexual violence prevention and advance health equity in Minnesota.
  • Experience with public health data analysis and program evaluation.
Additional Requirements
  • Must successfully pass a background and reference check.
  • This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
  • The successful candidate under U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
