A law firm in Washington, DC, seeks a skilled Junior-/Mid-Level Patent Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have solid intellectual property (IP), a patent law foundation, and scientific expertise in a relevant field. This role involves conducting patent searches, preparing and filing patent applications, and contributing to managing IP portfolios. Duties: Conduct thorough patent searches and analyze patentability and prior art. Review and stay informed about technological advancements relevant to clients' fields. Prepare and file patent applications with the USPTO and internationally. Contribute to developing and managing IP and patent portfolios for clients. Advise clients on patent strategy, including patentability, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses. Collaborate with clients and other legal professionals to ensure robust patent protection. Draft and prosecute patent applications, respond to office actions, and manage client correspondence. Participate in patent-related litigation and opposition proceedings as needed. Requirements: Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Actively licensed as an attorney in a U.S. jurisdiction. Eligibility to waive into the D.C. Bar or willingness to sit for the D.C. Bar exam. 3-5 years of experience practicing patent prosecution at another law firm. A strong foundation in IP and patent law. USPTO registration number preferred. Previous wet lab experience preferred. Stellar academic credentials with a JD or higher degree. Master’s or PhD preferred in a relevant scientific discipline, such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, organic chemistry, molecular genetics, human genetics, chemical engineering, or immunology. Skills: Proficiency in patent search and analysis tools and methods. Strong understanding of both U.S. and international patent laws and procedures. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal and scientific concepts clearly and concisely. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple patent projects and deadlines efficiently. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues.
